Wheel nut

The nut that holds on Dahlia's (ex Galwyn's) wheel has gone missing, and I am far from the boat until the weather turns a bit more clement. Any ideas as to the size and thread of nut required?

Re: Wheel nut

Hi Sam,

I've been onboard and measured the steering wheel shaft with a micrometer.

The Outer diameter (measured to outer edge of the threads) is 15.7mm
The inner diameter (measured to the troughs of the threads) is 14.16mm
The peak to peak distance of the threads is 1.92mm

Was in a bit of a hurry as plans changed rather this week - hope this is enough.  Also took a photo of the nut if that is any use and can email that if you give me an address.

Let me know if you need more, depending on how things get on I'm hoping to get down there again this coming weekend.

Re: Wheel nut

Marcus

That's great. Sounds pretty dashed Imperial to me. Somewhere between 5/8 and 3/5 by the sound of it - I'll take both and hope for the best.

Many thanks for taking the trouble.

Re: Wheel nut

Yes absolutely - will be, if I'd had my wits about me I'd have measured imperial.

Are you the Sam Llewellyn of Marine Quarterly?
