Sail size

Hello all,

I wondered if anyone could give advice on foresail size. I am intending to have a new set of sails made and have been advised by the sailmaker to go with a 150% due to the relatively forward position of the main mast. Has anyone got advice in this area?

Many Thanks

Phil

Re: Sail size

Hi Phil,
First advice is make sure you know the height of your mast. There are 2 standard sailplans but in reality mas heights vary by quite a bit. Take any 3 SeaDogs and you will almost certainly have 3 different heights.
I will leave it for others to comment on other dimensions as I am not much of a sailor. I will say however that if you are talking about a a furling forsail then pay the extra for a padded luff so that it will keep a good shape when partly furled.
regards
Graham
