Engine Temperature

Engine Temperature

It seems that engine temperature is raising itself as an item of concern. The original system installed will cope with the engine running at full throttle for a good period of time, sufficient to clear any normal hazard. Temperatures vary for a number of reasons. Thermostats seeem to vary between 70c to 85c and 90c is nothing to be alarmed at if it does not continue to rise. The main thing is to ensure that the sea water inlet is not restricted, The sea water pump is in good order and the impellor complete and not missing vanes. Next check the tube stack, blocked tubes is a common reason for engine temperature to rise when working hard. not forgetting any oil coolers for engine or gearbox as any restriction will influence the temperature. If all these are ok then make sure that any exhaust bend water fitting is not chocked with lime scale, this does often occur as it is a hot spot in the system.
