Autohelm 3000

I have an original AUTOHELM 3000 which I  presume the original owner of EMRA a certain Captain Matthews, had installed on the boat...I now seem to have a problem with the internal COMPASS FLUX, as when locking the SERVO MOTOR onto the belt drive which controls STEERING WHEEL, and hence RUDDER, on a particular heading.... the controller pays no attention and just either send the boat in circles, or off in to some place I do not want to go...! Has anybody any ideas as to how to fix the internal parts of the AUTOHELM 3000, or just chuck it away and buy another newer updated model...?
