Stanchion Question

I wanted to put a stanchion gate on each side to aid getting on and off when short handed or decrepit (your guess).
What I need then are two extra stanchion bases.
The ones on the boat are a kind of oblong, are yours too ?

Anyone know a source of these ?

Re: Stanchion Question

Hi, We did this on Twotails, and it was not (entirely) for decrepitude!

I got fed up of seeing ladies wearing skirts having to hitch them up to get across the wires. It also makes it easier to move gear on and off. Ours are forward alongside the after main mast shroud, as this gives something to hold onto and also gear can be dumped on the saloon deckhead quickly for later transfer below. If you want some photos let me know.

We got our bases from the Chandlery Barge, here on the Hamble at Bursledon. They are good source of old second hand items, but you do need to do the searching yourself. Are you in a rush?

Re: Stanchion Question

I guess that I am in a hurry as the boat looks tatty at the moments with bits of gaffa tape on the stanchion tops where some are broken (did I mention I needed tops as well).

Whatever pics you might have would be great

I guess it might be worth a trip down to Burseldon !!

Thanks Chris

Re: Stanchion Question

Hi, If you did want to come down the delights of the Chandlery Barge, then you could also have a poke around Twotails, and stay overnight.
