Hello all
we are back aboard Star Dog again this weekend and I've just remembered that I have a blocked scupper drain to fix. It is the forward staboard side one. Star Dog has 2 x approx 1" dia outlets under a 3" x 2" oblong grid midships each side. I can only locate one outlet per side so assume that there must be a T or Y branch somewhere inaccesible behind the fuel tank. I have had some success flushing both ways with a hose pipe but it still doesn't run freely. Before I attack it with my drain cleaning wire has anyone dealt with this another way?

Re: Scupper Drain
A late response, but hope this may help.
Tiwana was one of the first production boats, but I assume the scupper drains kept the same design. Yes, the two drain hoses meet in a "box" that is glassed on to the hull at the drain holes. On the starboard side you can see these hoses and the fittings on the drain box by taking out the lining for the pilot berth. On Tiwana the plastic hoses are fitted over short lengths of copper pipe glassed into the drain box - not good as one of these pipes had corroded badly causing a leak! [Think I should replace copper with plastic.] You can access the box itself by cutting out a small "hatch"(!) in the base of the bunk. Life is more complex on the port side. In the stern cabin I have cut a small opening in the locker at the forward end of the port bunk so can see and check the drain box and fittings on that side. I have heard that others have cut an access hole in the port side cockpit locker - I guess finding the right place is fairly critical!!
Re your query on drilling perspex - yes I've done this when replacing the windscreen on Tiwana. I bought some new drills to get a good cut and it all worked very easily. I guess you should find some way to spread the weight/pressure of the spindle of the wiper over a small area rather than just on one hole.
Good luck! John.

Re: Re: Scupper Drain
John
many thanks. I have had some success clearing it with a curtain wire but the "box" would explain why I can't get a through route. In view of your remarks about the copper pipe I will investigate further.
